IceLand 1B

Dear Residents,

We hope you had a wonderful fall and were able to enjoy our beautiful parks as the leaves changed color. With the winter cold and snow almost here we look forward to offering you recreation programs and special events for you to enjoy.

There are many different benefits that can be attributed from participation in recreation programs or a visit to one of our parks. We offer Niles so many opportunities to get away from our electronic devices and get active. Parks and recreation programs contribute to the health of children, youth, adults, and seniors. Games children play, whether it’s a sports league, summer camp, or playing with other children at a playground encourages the development of social skills and improves coordination and self-esteem.

According to studies by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, creating, improving, and promoting places to be physically active can improve individual and community health and result in a 25 percent increase of residents who exercise at least three times a week. The Niles Park District offers fitness classes, 14 parks, 9 outdoor basketball courts, 4 indoor basketball courts, fitness equipment, indoor soccer, indoor tennis, a nine-hole golf course, and an ice rink.

Our parks and recreation facilities provide places for healthy activities that are accessible by people of all ages. We help make the Niles community a desirable place to live, work, play and visit. As you explore the Winter/Spring Guide we hope you find activities that you will be interested in.

If you have a program idea you would like to see please let me know. You can always contact me with comments or suggestions at 847-967-6633 or e-mail me at tome@niles-parks.org. On behalf of the Niles Park District we wish you a very happy and healthy holiday season.
